Vacancy: Reporter for Die Burger (Western Cape)

Die Burger ( http://www.dieburger.com/) requires the services of a Reporter, to start as soon as possible in its Southern Cape office in George. The successful candidate will report to the editorial head in George and must meet the following requirements:

  • A degree or diploma in journalism
  • Although not required, experience as a journalist with a daily publication will be a recommendation.
  • Excellent writing skills in Afrikaans plus the ability communicate well in Afrikaans and English (Knowledge of any other South African language will be an advantage.)
  • Broad general knowledge and being informed of the news events of the day
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours and over weekends
  • Availability on short notice to cover unexpected news events and take news photo's of a variety of subjects
  • Ability to meet the fixed deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain sound relations with members of the community and potential newsmakers
  • Valid driver's licence
