Job Opening: English Sub-Editor for The Cape Daily Voice

INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPERS CAPE DAILY VOICE ENGLISH SUB-EDITOR


The Daily Voice has a vacancy for an English Sub-Editor who will be required to:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Sub-edit and re-write copy
* Check spelling and grammar and amend copy as required
* Check for any possible legal errors in the copy
* Ensure consistency in story

PREFERRED MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

* At least two years' newsroom experience in sub-editing or reporting
* Have good English writing skills with proficiency in grammar, spelling and article structure.
* Have knowledge of Daily Voices' language style, i.e. Cape slang
* Knowledge of Quark Copydesk is an advantage
* Be prepared to work long hours
* Be prepared to work evening and weekend shifts

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES:

* Sense of humour is essential
* Attention to detail
* Ability to work well and without fault under pressure
* Ability to work accurately to deadline with minimum supervision
* Good communication skills is essential
