Vacancy: Managing Editor for MML Schools, South Africa

Job Title: Managing Editor

Duration: One Year Fixed-Term Contract, Commencing 01 February 2011.

Business Unit: MML Schools: Editorial department

Based in: Cape Town

We are looking for a highly organised and qualified person to take up the position of Managing Editor on a fixed-term contract.

Key Performance Areas:

§ Copy editing, language editing and production editing of all relevant titles
§ Preparation of manuscripts for production
§ Artwork commissioning
§ Communication and liaison with relevant parties
§ Project management, including scheduling of titles and control of related budgeted costs
§ Management of relevant editorial suppliers and freelancers
§ Management of editorial staff
§ Effective administration of all editorial work

The successful applicant will have:

§ Understanding of the editorial and technical processes involved in taking projects from manuscript through to PDF
§ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English
§ A meticulous and organised approach to tasks, and the ability to strictly adhere to deadlines
§ Computer skills in MS Office, Excel and Outlook

The following will be an advantage:

§ An understanding of current South African educational context and the national curriculum
§ A tertiary qualification
§ A teaching Diploma and related teaching experience
