Consequently our Custom Publishing division is able to deliver a turn-key publishing solution to cater to the broadest communication needs of clients across a range of print and digital media.

As our Custom Publishing division continues to grow, we are pleased to present an exciting opportunity within the division. We are looking for an organised and administratively-oriented junior journalist to join the team as Editorial Assistant / Writer. Reporting to the Group Editor, the successful candidate will be responsible for various writing tasks and for handling all editorial assistant tasks across the custom brands.

Your key responsibilities will be as follows:

Editorial assistant responsibilities:

• Sourcing prizes for competitions
• Sourcing images
• Fact checking
• Sourcing items for review
• Assisting editors with feature research
• Handling meeting arrangements and taking minutes
• Assisting the Group Editor and Publisher with office duties
• Assisting the Group Editor, Publisher and editors with various adhoc tasks as required

Content generation:

• Generating certain content across all custom brands - compiling letters pages, news pages, reader feedback pages and competition pages
• Assisting with writing advertorial copy when required
• Assisting with managing the social media pages across the custom brands
• Assisting with the collation of information for editorial columns
• Updating websites across the custom brands
• Managing and updating content databases on a regular basis
• Inputting editorial corrections during the proofing processes

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you'll need to have:

• A relevant journalism degree or diploma
• Proven magazine writing skills (and a portfolio of work to prove it)
• Excellent computer literacy skills (knowledge of InDesign is advantageous)
• Must have a good track record of working under pressure and meeting deadlines
• Must be a highly organised individual with great attention to detail, good administrative skills and the ability to multitask and juggle numerous projects simultaneously
• An excellent level of confidence with great negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to interact with sponsors and readers in a professional capacity
• A keen interest in social media and electronic media is advantageous
• Must be a positive team player who takes initiative, is eager and self-motivated
• The ability to function both independently and as part of a team
• Good research skills and the ability to keep your knowledge up to date
• A valid driver's license and own transport is essential
• A willingness to work unusual hours and attend events after hours where necessary
