Provide training to junior reporters to ensure the best angles and perspective.
2. Be the first to go through articles to ensure it has the best angle and contains the necessary information.
3. Check all wires and communicate with the news editor to identify the news of the day. Use the wire copy to ensure that the Sake24 adds more value.
4. Communicate with reporters about the content of their articles and suggest changes and additions. This will be a key training responsibility.
5. Rewrite important news stories if needed.
6. Play a leading role to coordinate all editorial graphics. This includes the conceptualisation of a graphic idea, as well as the coordination the supply of information from the reporter to the graphic artist, the proofreading and the attachment of the graphic to the article.
7. Play a leading role to identify photo's to be used with articles. Coordinate, together with the news editor, the brief of all photos with the photo editor. Ensure that if possible, local photos for Sake24 in Beeld, Die Burger and Volksblad to limit the use of generic wire photos.
8. Be available to act as night editor and/or news editor.
