Job Opening: Copy Editor for Elle Decor Magazine (South Africa)

Job description:

- Ensure copy is sparkling, grammatically and factually correct.
- Writing headlines, intros, and cover lines.
- Proof-read on paper and layout.
- Final responsibility for checking irises, inputting changes and checking PDFs before final upload.
- Work closely with the art director and ensure deadlines are met.
- Keep track of style decisions.
- Check contact details and facts where necessary.

Requirements

- Must be very familiar with magazine production.
- Must be proficient in CS Indesign 3 and 4.
- At least five years experience in magazines, with décor/design magazines a distinct advantage.
- Must previously have held a mid-weight or senior position on a magazine.
- Must be prepared to work overtime on evenings and weekends if necessary.
- Must be able to contribute to strategy/booklist meetings with ideas and improvements.
- Must be a good communicator and have experience with client liaison.

- Someone who is well-versed in design, have a good general knowledge and a sensitivity to tone and style.
- Someone who can help keep our voice fresh and compelling. This is a crucial position in the editorial team, so you must be a team-player and able to juggle tasks to meet deadlines. This position also requires some writing, so a proven ability to write is an advantage.
