Job Opening: Editor for The Politician Magazine (South Africa)

The Politician,a political magazine published by Moqhaka Publications, invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced applicants for the following position:

Editor

Requirements:

* Relevant degree or diploma in journalism or media studies (A postgraduate degree or diploma will be an added advantage).
* A minimum of six years journalistic or publishing experience, two of which should be in editing, proofreading and rewriting.
* A very good understanding of International and South African media laws.
* Valid driver's license.

The duties will include, but not limited to the following:

* Editing, proofreading and rewriting of the articles.
* Researching, reporting, interviewing, scheduling interviews.
* Fact-checking and managing the production process.
* Track news and develop contacts and in-depth knowledge in a specific coverage area.
* Composing the headlines and ensuring that they are relevant at all times.

Skills:

* Communicating in a credible and effective way.
* Promoting and implementing accurate, aggressive and thorough investigative reporting.
* Ability to work under pressure and be deadline driven.
* Ability to work harmoniously as a team member, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.
* Have a good understanding of South African and international politics.
* Have a good understanding of how government (local, provincial and national) functions.
* Be able to carry out editorial duties in an independent manner.
* Competence in the use of computers in a networked office environment is essential.
