YOU magazine has a vacancy for a sub-editor/proofreader in its Cape Town office.
JOB SUMMARY
Responsibilities will include handling production aspects of all editorial,
copy-editing, headline writing and proofing and ensuring timeous copy flow to meet the demanding production deadlines of a weekly magazine.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND APTITUDES
-A tertiary qualification in arts, languages, journalism or related subject.
-Have spent at least four years as a sub-editor/proofreader at newspapers and/or magazines.
-An eye for detail and quality.
-A persistent nature and consistency in work approach, standards and methodology.
-Excellent organisational and planning skills.
-The ability to work independently but as part of a team, taking direction from a line manager.
-An even temperament and the ability to work under pressure and deal with diverse personalities and situations.
-An excellent knowledge of - and a love for - the English language.
-Perfectionism and tenacity.
-The willingness and ability to work overtime if required.
-A sound knowledge of editorial principles.
-Ability to meet deadlines.
