Job Opening: Community Editor for Thomson Reuters (South Africa)

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Community Editor for Trading Africa. We're seeking talent with a mix of cutting-edge skills - an understanding of financial markets, social media awareness and first class journalism - to lead all editorial aspects of a project that will combine analytical insight with Reuters News to build a real-time investment community for one of the world's most exciting investment hotspots. First and foremost, we're looking for a confident communicator who can moderate debates - online or in person - and bring insight to a community that is not only looking for news, but also trading ideas and direct access to the key decision-makers. Have you built up a Twitter following? Do you know what makes Facebook so magnetic? We're looking for someone who not only uses social media, but understands it as a powerful tool for building communities and exchanging information. Can you start an online conversation and keep it going? Do you naturally share information? We need an instinctive networker who enjoys building bridges with business colleagues and gets a buzz out of hosting lively events.

Responsibilities:

• Develop a Day Ahead Newsletter that becomes a must-read item for the community
• Secure a steady stream of guests for the chatroom including economists, analysts, and top company executives
• Nurture a culture of participation amongst members
• Devise an engaging content strategy for the Web Portal
• Establish strong relationships with Reuters colleagues and a steady flow of journalists into the chatroom
• Build collaborative relationships with the business team and help devise campaigns to increase the engagement of members

Qualifications

Required skills:

• Experience in the financial or investment industries, or financial journalism
• A multi-tasker who can juggle the demands of a live chatroom, private conversations with members, forward event planning and website updating
• Deep knowledge of investment strategy or financial analysis
• Good writing and multimedia presentation skills
• Experience with web production and presentation, blogging or social media a plus
• Willingness to work long hours; team skills paramount

Desired skills:

• Knowledge of markets in sub-Saharan Africa
