Job Opening: Copy Editor for FHM (Media 24, South Africa)

Job description

# Meeting deadlines set by the managing editor, while ensuring that all copy adheres to the FHM values of being sexy, funny, useful and relevant to South African readers.

# Checking/writing headers, subheaders, introductions, facts and references. Getting quotes from local sources, checking contact details etc.

# Rewriting copy where necessary to make it funnier, more cohesive and/or more entertaining. Writing funny captions.

# Sourcing copy for the edition, whether by writing it, conducting interviews, fetching it from overseas editions, or localising syndicated copy.

# Editing and proofing laid - out pages.

# Generating copy for the FHM website, the monthly FHM Payday Mailer and promotions and announcement pages as required.

# The successful applicant will also be a fun, easygoing individual prepared to work late hours and willing to face intimidating deadlines with good humour.

Requirements

# A tertiary qualification and at least two - three years working experience in magazine or newspaper filed

# Well developed verbal and written communication skills

# Excellent attention to detail

# Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines

# Planning and organising skills

# Able to work independently, as part of a team and with individuals from different departments

# Familiarity with and competence on digital platforms

# Excellent general knowledge

# Proficient in relevant computer packages and software applications

# Sound knowledge of editorial principles
