Madingoane’s popular poem, Africa My Beginning, was published in 1979 and banned immediately afterwards by the then apartheid régime was like an anthem and a conscientising tool for the highly politicized and militant youth of the era. Madingoane is also a recipient of the 2007 Posthumous Literary Award category of the South African Literary Awards.
