Senior Editor: Higher Education
Oxford University Press Southern Africa, an equal opportunity employer, invites suitable applications for the above position that involves the editing, proofreading and project management of Higher Education titles.
In this position, based in Cape Town, the incumbent will take responsibility for the quality of the
editorial process, liaison with designers, typesetters and freelancers, as well as working within strict deadlines and budget parameters according to editorial and production processes.
Consideration will be given to candidates who display the following essential competencies:
• outstanding conceptual, organisational and English language skills
• a highly organised, efficient, and meticulous approach
• the ability to communicate competently and professionally with people at all levels
• strong initiative, enthusiasm and creative flair
• a willingness to assume responsibility and work independently
• ability to cope with deadlines and work well under pressure
• shows support to the Commissioning Editor with new editions.
Applicants should have a tertiary level qualification and be familiar with the tertiary education structure in South Africa. You should be extremely accurate in your use of spelling, grammar, punctuation, style and English language usage. All this should be augmented by your ability to develop and improve a text for coherence, consistency and design.
A commitment to producing materials of the highest quality, on time, is essential. A thorough
knowledge of the editorial and production processes of book publishing, proven project management experience and previous experience in editing and project management of the production process of educational textbooks, will be an advantage.
