Abstracts are invited for essays for a proposed collection on the Orange Prize for Fiction, the prestigious women-only literary prize which, since its inception in 1996, has sought 'originality, excellence and accessibility' in fiction writers in English worldwide.
Suggested themes:
- The Gender questions raised by the setting up and success of the Prize as women only
- Marketing and commercial success of the prize
- Essays on any of the winning novels
- Essays on a shortlist and the questions it raises
- Judging and Panels
- The Prize and the Construction of the Canon.
- The Orange Prize versus the Booker Prize
- The Orange Prize and scholarship/the academy
- The Prize and Bourdieu's theories
Final essays will be approximately 7,000 - 9,000 words, with estimated deadline, if abstract is accepted and publishers accept the proposal, of February 2012.
