Job Opening: News Editor/ Anchor for Capital Radio Limited (Uganda)

Capital Radio Limited owns two stations, Capital FM and Beat FM in Uganda and has media interests elsewhere in East Africa. The company is seeking for a dynamic qualified individual to fill the following position as part of its team.

Position: News Editor/Anchor

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to: Programme Director

The News Editor will be in charge of the news teams for both Capital FM and Beat FM stations.
Duties:

• Organising and supervising the news staff and freelance reporters for daily story coverage;
• Assigning stories and deploying news staff;
• Selecting stories for inclusion in the news bulletins;
• Compiling and editing news bulletins in compliance with the company parameters;
• Presenting news bulletins at station designated times;
• Managing the news team budget and disbursing monies to the news staff;
• Keeping a comprehensive, organized, up to date and secure library of news stories;
• Develop and maintain regular and professional relationships with the stations contacts and sources of news stories, leads and information;
• General administration of the newsroom including motivating, developing skills, mentoring and reviewing performance of the news team;
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by management.

Requirements:

Person Specification (Qualifications, Skills and Experience):

1. Bachelor degree in Mass Communication/ Journalism and Broadcasting from a recognized institution majoring in Broadcast Journalism.
2. At least 3 years experience at senior level in a commercial or public funded radio station managing the news team.
3. Must demonstrate practical experience in sound editorial judgment and control over news output with a wide range of editorial issues.
4. Knowledge of computer audio editing and studio software.
5. Excellent writing and story-telling skills with ability to adapt for different audiences and platforms.
6. In-depth knowledge of the radio market, programme styles and audience demographics.
7. Thorough knowledge of media broadcast law, news ethics and industry regulations with broad experience of their application in radio and the practice of journalism.
8. Should be flexible, innovative and a team player with excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
9. Should be 25 - 40 years of age.
10. Female candidate with experience in radio news anchoring are particularly encouraged to apply.
