The Whistling Fire is proud to announce our new ongoing Guest Editor Themed Selection. Throughout the year we will have various Guest Editors taking over The Whistling Fire for an entire month and selecting special themed work of their choice. The lucky few selected will be published every Tuesday of their Guest Editor’s month.
OUR JULY GUEST EDITOR IS ATHENA LARK.
Like a griot from a West African village I send out a call to hear your story. I want to read your stories be them fiction, non-fiction, or poetry about the African-American experience. Let your stories transform me into another world – a world where African-Americans live and breathe, a world where they love, grow, despair, desire, endure, and hope. Although African-American literature is defined as literature by African-Americans, I’m widening up the spectrum – all races are welcome to submit. If your writing is clear, imaginative, and well-written I’m interested in hearing from you.
RULES: Accepting fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Please send your submissions to whistlingfire@gmail.com. Please include the words “July Editor” in your subject line. No more than two submissions per author, work must be under 3000 words. Must be sent as an attachment (MS WORD preferred). Simultaneous submissions accepted. Previously published work is also allowed as long as the author retains the rights. Please include a short third person bio for our contributor’s page. Submissions Close: June 23rd.
ABOUT THE EDITOR: Athena received her MFA from the University of California at Riverside, Palm Desert. She is an Adjunct Faculty member at a local community college in Houston, TX, and an independent Journalist and Photographer. She is also a retired U.S. Navy veteran. Athena has been published in; the Literary Journals, Gently Read Literature and Whistling Fire, the Florida Times Union newspaper, Jacksonville Business Journal, Jacksonville Advocate, the Albany Herald, UNF Spinnaker, and UNF Alumni Magazine. She is currently working on her first novel, “The Avenue of Palms” and her memoir, “Sailor Girl”.
