SUMMARY:
Conceptualize and produce beauty pages and features for Cosmopolitan that adhere to the style and tone of the magazine in line with the international brand tenets. Develop and maintain professional relationships with beauty clients/advertisers, beauty houses, and readers. Professionally represent and be the ‘face’ of the Cosmopolitan beauty department at social and work events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Have the ability to produce beauty editorial and supplement ideas that are new, commercially viable and profitable.
- Direct shoots: source models, book photographers, stylists and hair and make-up professionals and ensure billing processes and budgets adhered to.
- Proactively research and source magazine-relevant features, new beauty breakthroughs and product developments in the industry (both in South Africa and abroad), plus latest international fashion and beauty trends, and interpret them to fit the specific reader profile of the magazine.
- Ensure that advertisers, as well as potential advertisers, are fairly/appropriately represented in all beauty reporting.
- Professionally represent Cosmopolitan at all beauty-related launches, client meetings as well as events/ functions (attendance is vital and sometimes after hours and out of town)
- Create beauty strategies, write and edit features for all Cosmopolitan digital platforms.
- Liaise with and support sales department where necessary with the aim of strengthening partnership with clients/advertisers (may be required to participate in beauty roadshows and present editorial strategies to clients)
- Conceptualize and produce relevant content in the main book and special projects: supply beauty content that meets the editorial standards and fits the style and tone of Cosmopolitan.
- Manage and support subordinates (will be expected to asses all performance-related matters of beauty assistant)
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 3 – 5 years experience in magazine beauty journalism, with excellent demonstrable knowledge of the beauty industry
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Demonstrate strong copy and deadline management
- Be computer literate
- Demonstrate excellent organisational skills and creative initiative
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Travel / driving required – must have a driver’s license (candidate with own /available car will be given preference)
- Personal qualities: outgoing, confident, conducting herself in a friendly manner and be able to professionally handle stress
- Able to work outside of regular hours, on occasion, to meet required deadline or as a job requirement
