Participation in the award nominations is very easy.
You need to collect the nomination forms for the individual and the corporate categories from our Branches, Regions and Headquarter offices countrywide or download from the Kenya Red Cross website www.kenyaredcross.org . They are to be completed and hand delivered or emailed to indiaka.pamela@kenyaredcross.org or posted to the Secretary General’s office at the headquarters and clearly marked volunteer award nominations. As a Kenya Red Cross Society Volunteer, Member, Partner, beneficiary or staff, if you know an individual or institutions that have made, a significant contribution to the work of Kenya Red Cross Society, either at a local, constituency or national level, tell us about it by submitting a nomination or nominating them for the 2012 Kenya Red Cross Volunteer Awards.
1. Self nomination is not permitted. To nominate individuals or institutions please complete the appropriate nomination form in full. Each nomination must have support by at least two other volunteers, members or staff of the KRCS. Each application must have two support letters from the people nominating the individuals or institutions.
2. All nominations must be submitted using the appropriate application form depending on the categories, there are two nomination forms, for the individual and corporate awards and submitted before the deadline indicated above.
3. All nominations for this National awards emanating from Branches must be signed by the nominating Branch and Region respectively.
4. For the Youth Award proof of age will be required, while for organizations proof of registration will be required.
5. The information provided on the nomination form is collected by the Kenya Red Cross Volunteer Taskforce and will be made available to the judging panel. Personal information collected during the Award process may also be published on the International Volunteers Day held on 5th December, in media releases and other Kenya Red Cross promotional materials.
6. Information submitted may be used in promotion and disclosed to the public through publicity associated with the Kenya Red Cross Volunteer Awards.
7. Nominations are open to:
• Individuals and volunteers who have made significant contribution to the work of Kenya Red Cross e.g. during the Kenyans for Kenyans initiative(K4K)
• Institutions that have significantly supported the work of Kenya Red Cross Society with focus on the Kenyans for Kenya initiative.
8. The awards may be awarded posthumously.
9. Any materials submitted shall not be returned, so ensure you send copies not originals; however the organizers reserve the right to undertake where necessary authentication of the information provided.
10. Finalists will be invited to attend the awards ceremony at the Boma Hotel on Friday November 2, 2012.
11. Nominees and those nominating another person will be advised in writing of the outcome of their nomination
KENYA RED CROSS SOCIETY VOLUNTEER AWARDS 2012
The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) Volunteer Awards honour and recognize individuals, groups, institutions, media houses and organizations for outstanding volunteer service and acts of great contribution to the cause of the Red Cross Movement. It will also recognize individuals and institutions that have demonstrated leadership and commitment to promoting volunteerism within the KRCS.
Kenya Red Cross Society has a three level administrative structure at National, Regional and Branch levels and thus the organization will endeavor to appreciate and award its pool of 70,000 volunteers at each level to celebrate volunteerism.
AWARDS CATEGORIES
1. A. A. Molu Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a person who has overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges in the course of their volunteer work within KRCS, has made great contributions and has shown great devotion mainly of national significance and has reached out to help others over a long period of time.
2. Michael Sululu Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has made a great contribution with great devotion for the last one year with focus on the Post Election Violence or the Kenyan for Kenya initiative.
3. Youth Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes the contribution of a KRCS Youth Volunteer aged between 7 and 30 years (as defined in the KRCS youth Policy) who has overcome diversity and made a great contribution and has shown great devotion to help others and to advance the cause of the Red Cross Movement.
4. Kenya Red Cross Annual Humanitarian Award recognizes corporate/ private sector corporations that have contributed to the Red Cross cause and volunteerism in particular over one year with focus on the Kenyans for Kenya initiative.
5. Annual Journalists Award recognizes a Journalist who during the cause of the year has advocated for humanitarian issues in Kenya aligned to one or more of the KRCS fundamental principles
AWARD BENEFITS:
Award recipients at the Inaugural Kenya Red Cross Volunteer Awards will receive the following:
- A.A Molu Lifetime Achievement Award-Prize: A lifetime achievement trophy, a Kenya Red Cross Life member framed certificate and a Kenya Red Cross honorary badge.
- Michael Sululu Volunteer of the Year Award-Prize: A trophy, Kenya Red Cross life member certificate, and a Life member badge.
- Youth Volunteer of the Year Award-Prize: A youth trophy, a Kenya Red Cross life certificate and a life member badge
- Kenya Red Cross Annual Humanitarian Award-Prize: A Kenya Red Cross branded trophy and a framed certificate
- Annual Journalist Award-Prize: A Kenya Red Cross branded trophy and a framed certificate.
The award finalists will have the opportunity to meet the Kenya Red Cross Society Patron (The President of the republic of Kenya-His Excellency the President Mwai Kibaki, Various dignitaries and other Volunteers from the Red cross fraternity during a gala dinner to be held at the upcoming Boma Hotel on Friday November 2, 2012.
All award recipients and one guest will be invited to attend the Kenya Red Cross Volunteer Awards ceremony on a complimentary basis. Travel expenses will be paid and out of town award recipients will be accommodated overnight in Nairobi.
Award recipient stories will be showcased in the media, acknowledged in the Kenya Red Cross quarterly outreach magazine, website and the annual report.
