Call for Submissions: Cagliari Portraits from Around the World (selected authors will spend a week in Cagliari, Italy)

Following the success of the nine short stories on Cagliari written by Dacia Maraini, Sandro Veronesi, Marcello Fois, Alberto Capitta, Nicola Lecca, Maria Giacobbe, Paola Alcioni, Roberto Alajmo and Piera degli Esposti, T Hotel is pleased to announce the publication of a new series of short stories dedicated to the City of Sunshine.

Six unpublished portraits, written exclusively for hotel guests by as many foreign authors. Six alternative points of view, six different feelings that will provide the city of Cagliari with as many new and exciting portraits*.

The series, directed by the Sardinian writer Nicola Lecca (native of Cagliari), will consist of three volumes, 5000 copies of which will be printed for each volume and distributed free of charge to T Hotel guests.

Each volume will present two short stories both in Italian and English.

Six writers will be selected among all applicants and invited to Cagliari as T Hotel guests for one week. The outcome of their experience in the Sardinian capital will give rise to six original short stories that will be presented both in Italian and English.

The first volume of “CAGLIARI PORTRAITS FROM AROUND THE WORLD” will be presented in December 2013. The following volumes will be published with yearly frequency.

NB Participants can write the short story in their own mother tongue, T Hotel will provide translation in both languages.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Art. 1

CAGLIARI PORTRAITS FROM AROUND THE WORLD is a cultural initiative aimed at promoting the imageof the city of Cagliari around the world. Application to the initiative is open to all non-Italian writers and residents abroad who have had at least one work of fiction published by a major editor in their country of origin.

Art. 2

In order to take part in the initiative applicants should meet the criteria illustrated in Art. 1, fill in the application form and submit it by email no later than 30.08.2012. Incomplete application forms or forms received after the deadline will not be taken into consideration.

Art. 3

Authors taking part in the initiative commit themselves to spending a week in Cagliari during the month of October 2012. All travel and accommodation costs will be covered by T Hotel as follows:

A) Return economy ticket from the author's city of residence to Cagliari
B) Transfer from Cagliari Elmas airport to the hotel and vice versa
C) Seven nights' accommodation in a Classic room (double room for single use)
D) Wholesome daily English buffet breakfast accompanied by Sardinian gastronomic delicacies
E) Daily dinner at the hotel restaurant including soft drinks and house wine
F) Two tickets for the Acqua Journey Pathway at the T SPA Wellness Centre
G) Welcome basket of Sardinian gastronomic delicacies
H) Weekly urban public transport ticket

All extras not listed above (e.g. laundry, telephone, minibar etc.) will be charged to the author.

Art. 4

All authors entering the contest commit to writing an unpublished text of 3000 words in which the main subject is the city of Cagliari, to be submitted to the hotel management no later than 15.02.2013. Any rights over the text concerned will be relinquished for a period of six years, with regard to its publication in Italian and English. Vulgar, racist, homophobic or discriminatory references will not be tolerated, as well as political agendas or religious integralism. Participants can write the short story in their own mother tongue, T Hotel will provide translation in both languages.

Art. 5

Writers taking part in the initiative will be selected by the hotel management together with the series director. Their judgement is to be considered unquestionable.

Art. 6

Writers selected to take part in the initiative will receive written notification by 10.09.2012. No communication will be sent to authors that have not been selected.
