We are looking forward to seeing you August 1-4, 2012 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas for the historic gathering of journalists of color, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender journalists, media professionals, newsroom recruiters, journalism students and individuals who care about diversity and inclusion in news media.
This must-attend event, will offer you numerous opportunities to:
- engage the news media industry, newsmakers and industry thought leaders,
- connect with fellow journalists, media professionals, journalism educators, newsroom recruiters, and
- embrace new media, digital technologies, emerging business models and our alliances.
Through the numerous education sessions, students projects and networking opportunities, UNITY '12 will also include a job fair for journalists and media professionals including career coaching services offered through the UNITY '12 Career Resource Center.
UNITY: Journalists of Color, Inc. is a coalition of the four alliances, the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Native American Journalists Association and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Registration is open to all who are interested in attending UNITY '12. Lower rates apply for individual members of UNITY alliance associations. View registration FAQs for information regarding rates, deadlines, etc.
Housing & Travel. Housing may be reserved online for a room at our host hotel in The Mandalay Bay. Visit the housing and transportation page for additional information on housing and airfare discount codes to save up to 10% on your trip to Las Vegas.
Convention Program. UNITY '12 will feature educational sessions, including hands-on training for digital media, a forum for presidential candidates, media receptions, alliance awards banquets, numerous events and a closing benefit concert (ticketed event) at the Mandalay Beach.
Media Showcase & Career Expo will feature over 100 recruiting companies, resume critique stations, online resume job bank, Tweetup and Meetup Lounges, Ask the Recruiter lounge and an eat-in area. CONVENTION ASSISTANCE FOR UNEMPLOYED JOURNALISTS
As part of the 2012 UNITY Convention Assistance Program, UNITY Journalists and its alliance partners, the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA), the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), the Native American Journalists Association (NAJA), and the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) are offering a stipend to assist with conference participation to the UNITY 2012 Convention: Media Expo & Career Fair in Las Vegas, NV, August 1-4, 2012.
The assistance is open to those members who have been displaced in this current job climate and/or those with the biggest financial need who stand to benefit from the enhanced training. Priority will be given to those members who have been laid off within the last 18 months, but other journalists and students who can demonstrate some financial need are also encouraged to apply.
If granted, your assistance will include the following:
- Registration Fee Waiver
- Hotel stay at host hotel(s) for a maximum of up to four (4) nights, double room occupancy may be required.
