Job Opening: Senior Editor for Cape Media (Cape Town, South Africa)

A leading business-to-business magazine publishing house, is looking for a dynamic senior sub-editor to lead the subbing team across all the company's niche titles in its Rondebosch office. Our ideal candidate is an experienced, accurate and precise sub-editor with an excellent command of the English language. Working closely with (and reporting to) the managing editor, the senior sub-editor will be part of a vibrant and busy production team, ensuring all copy is efficiently and accurately prepared for print.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Editing copy for grammar, spelling and style
  • Fitting copy and checking for typographical errors
  • Rewriting articles
  • Meticulous proofreading

REQUIREMENTS:
  • A journalism/media or linguistics tertiary qualification.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Good headline and blurb writing skills.
  • Work quickly and accurately in a pressurised and competitive environment.
  • Ensure highly readable, clean and compelling final copy for publication.
  • Be meticulous and pay careful attention to detail.
  • A minimum of five years' magazine sub-editing experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Have good communication and organisational skills.
