Free Event/ Discussion at Open Book Cape Town: The Distance Between Page and Stage (South Africa)

Bulelwa Basse and Leon de Kock discuss the relationship between spoken word and page poetry (chaired by Izak de Vries). Followed by open mic performances by emerging and established poets in different langauges. Curated by Toni Stuart.

Bulelwa Basse, also known as Sassy Basse, is the founder of Lyrical Bass Project, an arts and culture organisation that seeks to elevate the profiles of writers from marginalised communities. Her writing has been pulished by the Poetry Institute of Africa and UKZN Press amongst others.

Leon de Kock is a poet, critic and award winning translator. He launched his first novel, Bad Sex, at Open Book 2011. He has published three collections of poetry as well as works of non fiction.
