Job Vacancy: Senior Content Editor for MWEB (Western Cape, South Africa)

The Digital department in Cape Town currently has a vacancy for a Senior Content Editor who, reporting to the Portal Manager, will be responsible and accountable for the full online editorial function and curation of content on mweb.co.za. This includes the procurement and management of content from third parties.

REQUIRED SKILLS SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Excellent language and proven writing skills
  • An excellent knowledge of Media and Compliance laws
  • Content sourcing and contract negotiation
  • Effective time management skills
  • Proficient in English and at least one other South African language
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Analytical and objective, with attention to detail
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines in an agile environment
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • At least 3-4 years online writing experience
  • Practical working experience with DotNetNuke or an OpenSource CMS is required
  • Portal and Mobile SEO experience essential
  • Some artistic/design skills preferable
  • Staff Management or mentorship is required
  • Willingness to learn new technologies
  • Exposure to SCRUM methodology essential
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coherent Messaging of all content on the MWEB portal
  • Management and mentoring of junior editor and editorial interns
  • Contribute to newsletter development
  • Perform full editorial function on new and existing MWEB online channels
  • Work with Portal Manager to proactively suggest secure content that is relevant to MWEB Subscribers and advertisers
  • Work with Portal Manager, Development and Design teams to improve usability and content across MWEB websites
