Job Vacancy: Social Media & Convergence Sub-Editor for The Standard Group (Nairobi, Kenya)

The Standard Group, a multi-media house comprising the Standard newspapers, KTN, Radio Maisha, PDS, Online Digital Business and Think Outdoor services seeks to strengthen its online digital function.

SUB EDITOR–SOCIAL MEDIA & CONVERGENCE:

The incumbent will be part of a team that manages the Standard digital web content with specific focus on Social Media. The candidate must be an avid Social media user. Must have an In-depth understanding of Twitter, Facebook and G+ and very knowledgeable about how they can be used to convey news and engage multimedia audiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the Group’s social media platforms
  • Create and maintain a social media editorial calendar and posting schedule
  • Work with stakeholders including advertisers, editors, reporters to create social media campaigns, messages
  • Use social media to impact online search and traffic of the SG websites
  • Manage brand advocacy and community outreach
  • Create and upload videos on YouTube, and other on-demand and live stream applications
  • Write, edit and-proofread and gauge newsworthiness of stories
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Degree or Masters in Journalism, mass communication, Information Science or any related field, with over 1 years’ experience in journalism.
  • A proven track record of Social media usage and knowledge of related applications
  • Advanced computer literacy
  • Newsroom working experience
  • Public Relations training and/or practice will be an added advantage.
