The 2012 Ghada Award for Young Writers (for works in English or Arabic | Sudan)

The Ghada Award Organizing Committee invites young writers of both creative and expository styles to a competition meant to encourage and foster early signs of genius in writing and to steer our gifted young writers in the right direction for the development of their interests.

RULES, TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

1. Contestants should be girls and boys of 14 to 18 years old – unrestricted level of Education.

2. Participation could be either in English or Arabic Language.

3. There are three areas of choice: Story, Poem, or Personal Experience.

4. Articles should be between 750 -1500 words in length.

5. Articles should be either written in black ball point, clear handwriting or typed, on one face side of A4 paper.

6. Articles should be written and edited by the contestant him/herself. Any signs of plagiarism will disqualify the contestant at any time even after the results and will be announced.

7. Participants should include the following along with their work:
  • A few sentences, not more than 50 words, introducing the topic.
  • A copy of Birth certificate.
  • Written consent of the parent or guardian of the copyright in the booklet referred to above, without prejudice to the rights of the author or literary rights in the future publication of his/her text.
  • A contact number or e-mail address.
  • The committee may call some of the contestants for an interview to verify authenticity of his/her topic. Any absence of the above mentioned documents will disqualify the entry.
The Committee will be looking for the following:
  • Ideas, their relevance and coherence
  • Style of presentation
  • Language used: fluency and accuracy
8. Deadline: We will be receiving articles until 21stSeptember 2012.

9. The results of the contest will be announced on 14th November 2012.

10. The judges' Committees are composed of a President and three other members who are specialised linguists of Arabic and English.

All materials must be submitted:

    • General Administration for students’ activities in the center and all Sudan states
    • Holm English School (Alma’ Mora – Khartoum)
    • Unity High School (Khartoum)
    • Kibieda International Schools (Alamarat – Khartoum)
    • Leaders International School (Almanshia – Khartoum)
    • King Fahd Private School (Kober – Bahri).
    • Almaali high school (Alimtidad- Khartoum)
    • Algabas high school (Alarda – Umdurman)
A coordinator will be named in each centre.
