The Amasiko Heritage Festival 2012 Opens September 21st (Tshwane, South Africa)

Date: 21 - 24 September 2012

AmaSiko Heritage Festival is Tshwane's very first and only flagship festival which happens annually during September, South Africa's national heritage month. Organized and initiated by the youth of Tshwane, the festival is aimed at promoting, celebrating and educating on the all the rich cultures manifested in our diverse motherland through all art expression ranging from theatrical stage performances and fashion shows and to art and film exhibitions.

This is one of the biggest events that celebrate South Africa's heritage, arts and culture. There will be performances from music bands, dance, poetry, theatre, fine arts, books exhibitions, DJ workshops, comedy and more.

The opening of the 3rd Annual Amasiko Festival this year will host a vast array of veteran and new artist/writers in various forms of expressions. Come through to ZK Matthews Hall, UNISA Main campus and experience this beautiful event.

Day 1 - 21 September 2012
  • Opening of fine arts & books exhibition
  • Theme: "The unveil of a people"
Day 2 & 3 - (22 September 2012 to 23 September 2012)
  • Music, Theatre, Film Screening, Fashion, Dance, Storytelling, Poetry, Crafts and Food exhibition
  • Theme: "Bokganya bja Setso" a sepedi phrase translating into "the brightness of heritage"
Day 4 – 24th September 2012
  • The 2nd Annual Amasiko Awards
  • This year’s fourth day of the festival is allocated to awards ceremony. Last year we featured 10 films, five films from South African filmmakers and five international films. Some of last year’s winning films went for to make excellent ground after the festival last year. This year’s Amasiko Awards will be an affair of heritage and glamour.
