Job Vacancies: Writer/ Assistant Editor at May University Press (Lagos, Nigeria)

May University Press Limited Lagos, a growing publishing firm, has vacancies for qualified individuals as writers and editors in our publishing department.

WRITERS

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Conduct research to obtain factual information and authentic detail, utilizing sources such as libraries and archives, newspaper accounts, diaries, and interviews;
  • Create and submit write-ups for approval, and re-write and revise written works to meet standards required by the company and its clients;
  •  Take on various writing, re-writing and reading assignments.
Requirements:
  • A good first degree in the humanities or social sciences;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a sound knowledge of the structure and uses of English in various contexts;
  • A minimum of two (2) years work experience in a related position;
  • Good planning and research skills
ASSISTANT EDITORS

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Edit and re-write manuscripts to improve readability.
  • Read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
  • Handle various aspects of publication production
  • Read, evaluate and edit manuscripts or other materials submitted for publication and confer with authors regarding changes in content, style or organization, or publication.
Requirements:
  • A good first degree in the humanities or social sciences;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a sound knowledge of the structure and uses of English in various contexts;
  • A minimum of three (3) years work experience in a related position;
  • Good planning, research, organizational and project management skills
