Job Vacancy: Sports Copy Editor for Highbury Safika Media (Cape Town, South Africa)

Highbury Safika Media (Pty) Ltd is a large independent magazine publishing company who is seeking to appoint an experienced copy editor to work on their dynamic sport titles. The successful candidate must be able to work well in a small but award-winning team, have an excellent eye for detail, have a thorough knowledge of sport and work well under deadline pressure.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING:
  • Subediting, fact checking and proofreading editorial and advertorial copy across all titles
  • Subediting, proofreading and signing off layouts
  • Checking website daily
REQUIREMENTS:
  • At least three years of copy editing experience, preferably in sport
  • Ability to subedit copy to desired format
  • A good knowledge of sport
  • A good understanding of production requirements and systems
  • Ability to work accurately and professionally under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A good team player who is nevertheless able to work under their own initiative
  • Proactive and self-disciplined
  • Problem solving and lateral thinking skills
  • Computer literate, including proficiency in InDesign, and be able to use the internet as a research tool in a critical and informed manner
