PRISA Workshop: Writing for Different Mediums at the University of Western Cape

Today’s communicators are required to write for an increasing number of media platforms including print and broadcast media, social networks, and online media such as blogs and Web sites. Additionally, some of us are also writing scripts for podcasts or YouTube videos.

So how do you – as a communicator –write effectively for these different mediums and ensure that your communication rises above the noise?

Join PRISA’s Western Cape committee in collaboration with the University of Western Cape for an interactive workshop.

OUTCOMES OF THE WORKSHOP:

Delegates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to:
  • Identify different markets and audiences as well as understand how to adapt content accordingly
  • Understand strategies for engaging reader interest and attention
  • Use strategies to convey important information in a succinct and engaging style
  • Make the best use of short spaces such as headings, newsletters and sound bites
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:

Soweto born Solly Moeng APR is a tested general manager with specialisation in holistic brand management and strategic marketing and communication. His tertiary and professional careers have taken him to Canada, USA, and France (where he also completed his French MA Degree). Solly is fluent in French.

Solly also completed the IMM's Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing and is currently enrolled in a part-time BA Honours Programme in Brand Leadership with the industry respected Vega School of Branding.

In destination marketing, he was South African Tourism's Marketing Manager in Canada before being appointed to head the organisation’s operations in the USA. Here, as Country Manager, based in New York, he was tasked with managing the changes in the way South Africa had been positioned in the US market and in rolling out the country's new growth strategy.
This was done soon after the September 11th, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre Towers in Manhattan (NY) when many Americans were weary of travelling abroad.

He occupied the Marketing and Communication Manager position for CapeNature and the South African Biodiversity Institute, which manages the world famous Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Cape Town.

Currently, Solly manages the Cape Town based DonValley Brand, Marketing and Communications consultancy and also temporarily heads the communication and public relations department for Woolworths.

He is a regular writer for the Cape Times and writes commissioned articles for a number of other publications.
