Job Vacancy Type: Contract
- Be able to translate English stories into Afrikaans, adhere to the duration and the facts – accuracy is of the utmost importance
- Must be able to present and read the news in Afrikaans when required (This would entail familiarizing oneself with the bulletin and rehearsing)
- Do voice-overs when required
- Assist with News updates and check accuracy and update on air crawlers when necessary
- Research, script and produce interviews as part of the editorial team
- Produce packages and inserts when required
- Check the quality of visuals and scripts before broadcast
- Check the wire services and news feeds for the day's news/breaking news
- Liaise with news editor, library/archives and the technical crew
- Sub editing, when required
- Write some local and international stories
- More than five years experience – preferably in an Afrikaans news environment
- Excellent command of the Afrikaans language
- Excellent writing skills
- Good editorial judgement and interpretational skills
- Ability to work under pressure making deadlines
- Good general knowledge, and thorough understanding of local and international news
- Working knowledge of quality of visuals and scripts
- A team player and ability to work with others
