African-American Journalism Scholarship from Black Journalists Association of America

Deadline: 12 November 2010

All applicants must be African-American undergraduate students in good standing attending an accredited U.S. college or university. They must be students living in Southern California, or have a permanent residence in Southern California. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to journalism or a career in news media.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Download the SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION (PDF Document) – type or clearly print in black or blue ink
2) Submit two letters of recommendation (e.g. professor, employer, mentor – not a relative)
3) Submit your most current official sealed transcript
4) Submit an essay on the topic listed below. Essays must be typed, doublespaced
and be no more than 600 words.
5) Finalists will be interviewed by the BJASC Scholarship Committee
6) Scholarships will be awarded in December 2010.

ESSAY TOPIC: Are African-American journalists still relevant?
You must include comments from professional African-American journalists you interviewed in person, by phone or via e-mail. The Black Journalists Association of Southern California (BJASC) Scholarship Committee will select all scholarship winners.

Decisions of BJASC are final. No applications or submitted materials will be returned. Scholarship funds of at least $5,000 will be divided among worthy candidates. The amount of each scholarship and number of awards will vary depending on the number of applicants
and financial need.
