Call for Submissions: Videos/Articles about Africa for Harambee Africa International’s “Communicating Africa Awards”

Deadline: 8 October 2010

Harambee Africa International’s “Communicating Africa Awards”

Calling for submissions of TV documentaries, video clips and articles about Africa.

Accepted into the competition are TV documentaries broadcasted in 2009/2010 and video-clips produced by students (25 years and under) and distributed online. Submitted material must deal with ethnic, religious, social, economic, and cultural issues in Africa.

The awards, now in their fourth edition, are held every two years. They were instituted by Harambee Africa International to counter stereotypes and the Western tendency to think that Africa has no say and plays a marginal role in the international community. With these awards, we want to contribute to spreading a more genuine understanding of African people, their daily routines and normal life despite the tragic circumstances they often find themselves facing. Contrary to the trends the mass media disseminates, emphasizing catastrophes and epidemics, spreading the idea of Afro-pessimism even more, we would like to shed light on the daily stories of individuals who are driven by the desire to discover what it is that makes us all the same.
