Lecturer in Arabic

The Arabic Language program at Zaytuna College has an immediate opening for a full-time instructor in the Arabic Language department. The position is a three-year fixed-term appointment starting Summer 2010. Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in Arabic and English and demonstrated ability in teaching Modern Standard and classical Arabic to undergraduate college students.

The successful candidate will be prepared to offer courses in elementary, intermediate, and/or advanced Modern Standard Arabic using the Georgetown series. The candidate will also be able to incorporate classical Arabic into the Georgetown curriculum to prepare students for deeper study in Arabic and Islamic textual inquiry. We are seeking a professional language faculty member with a serious commitment to developing pedagogical materials for Zaytuna College’s Arabic curriculum.

Preference will be given to candidates specializing in Arabic language pedagogy or applied linguistics. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field at the time of appointment and display a demonstrable commitment to research and teaching, as well as to incorporating technological innovations into their curriculum. The Arabic lecturer will play a vital role in Zaytuna College’s innovative approach to Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies.
