Encyclopedia of Afroeuropean Studies: Call for Contributors

The Afroeuropeans research team requires contributions to its exciting new project: the creation of the first multimedia Encyclopedia of Afroeuropean Studies. The work will cover a range of topics related to the presence of Afrodescendants throughout continental Europe, from the shores of the Atlantic to the Ural Mountains; we need specific and separate entries, not exceeding 3000 words, on:

· the history of African presence· facts and statistics
· political movements social activism
· landmark immigration policies in southern, central, eastern and northern Europe

We also need submissions on writers and artists in all fields (music, the visual arts, drama, photography and so on), not exceeding 2000 words. The criteria for the inclusion of particular individuals is that they are African or of African descent and live or have lived in Europe for a significant number of years and whose work has contributed to the exchange and cross-pollination of cultures.

We encourage the entries to be accompanied by any kind of complementary materials which can be used for didactic purposes: images, music, documentaries, extracts from major texts and so on. In the first stance please e-mail your suggested list of topics or entries to marta-sofia.lopez@unileon.es and you will be mailed back a style sheet.

The deadline for suggestions and proposals is 31rst January, and 30th June 2011 for the final submission of complete entries. All final entries should be written in English and the relevant national language. Disclaimer: The Afroeurope@ns project is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology for the next two years, and therefore is a work-in-progress which will be developed through several stages.
