Call for Nominations: Internews Storyfest Awards 2012 (Kenya)

Internews in Kenya is announcing the ‘Internews Storyfest Awards 2012’. The deadline for the story submission is 31 July, 2012. The awards aim to celebrate creative, compelling, unique storytelling from Internews alumni of the Health journalism program. There are seven award categories with an overall winner drawn from the category winners.

ELIGIBILITY: Must have been trained or mentored by Internews.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
  • The story must have been produced by an alumni of the Health journalism program at Internews in Kenya.
  • The story must be published or broadcast by a media outlet or segment that targets Kenyan listeners/readers/viewers
  • The story must have been published between December 1, 2011 & July 31, 2012.
  • For a co- entry, please state the role of each person.
  • A brief summary of any outcomes after publishing/broacasting.
  • Stories in languages other than English and Swahili should be translated.
  • Each story can only be entered once.

SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Standard journalism principles of ethics (Accuracy, balance, relevance, and Independence)
  • Creativity
  • Sensitivity
  • Clarity
  • How compelling the story is
  • Possible Impact

CATEGORIES
  • Best TV Story (Under the themes HIV/AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health)
  • Best Radio Story (Under the themes HIV/AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health)
  • Best Print Story (Under the themes HIV/AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health)
  • Best online story (Under the themes HIV/AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health)
  • Best Data story (Data stories in health journalism. This category will award one winner in all media)
  • Best Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Story (This category will award one winner in all media on stories based on VMMC from the period between 2008 to 2012)
  • Best Long form/ Documentary story (Under the themes HIV/AIDS, Family Planning & Maternal and Child Health)

RULES OF ENTRY
  • The judges’ decision is final. One winner will be selected in each of the seven categories.
  • Three finalists in each category will be contacted in advance to let them know that their story is being considered for an Award.
  • Should the entries in a particular category fall below the minimum standards the judges reserve the right not to select a finalist
  • No responsibility will be taken for entries lost, delayed, misdirected, and incomplete or any other cause outside Internews’s control.

THE PRIZE: The three finalists in each award category will receive a fully paid trip to the awards ceremony venue. The winner will receive a trophy and a prize that will be revealed at the awards. The two runners up will each receive a certificate recognizing their achievement. Internews will not pay prize money to the winners.
