Deadline July 31 | Call for Papers for Edited Book: Language, Literature and Style in Africa (Nigeria/ Africa-wide)

Deadline: 31 July 2012

Papers are invited for publication in Language, Literature and Style in Africa, a book that honours Professor Christopher Olatunji Awonuga and his work in the fields of Linguistic/ Literary Stylistics and Applied Linguistics. Currently Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies at Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria, Professor Awonuga is a well-known scholar who has been an excellent teacher and mentor to several academics. His greatest asset, in our view, lies in the care with which he nurtured many of his students through the rigours of their doctoral and masters theses, a factor largely responsible for his appointment to the Deanship of the Postgraduate School at Covenant University.

This book project is an opportunity not only to celebrate Professor Christopher Awonuga, but also to highlight and bring together the seminal contributions of those scholars who are interested in research on language, literature and style in Africa. The accent on Africa is motivated, as discussions relating to the primary literary artefacts (poetry, prose and drama) produced on the continent hardly feature in the discussions in this field.

In view of the foregoing, contributors are invited to submit papers that generally address the relationships between language, literature and style in Africa. In particular, papers relating to all areas of stylistics, theoretical and methodological, are welcome, as are those from fields such as applied linguistics, conversational analysis and (critical) discourse analysis that are closely related to the discussions on language and literature. In addition, contributions that deal with the traditional genres of language and literature (poetry, prose and drama) as well as those of the media, advertising and music are welcome.

Papers on canonical written and oral texts, and emerging prominent African voices are especially welcome.
