South African Broadcasting Corporation is looking for an Editor - Economic News to manage and guide the News and Current Affairs economics team in the delivery of business, finance, investment and economics news for SABC NEWS.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• To identify main economics stories for the day and assign journalists accordingly
• To deliver the required quality and quantity of TV and Radio stories per day
• To deliver news items that reflect and affect the economic realities of all South Africans
• To coordinate sound coverage of business and economics for all programs within the News Division
• To keep control of the essence and facts of stories
• To strictly adhere to set deadlines
• Ensure that all stories adhere to SABC Editorial policies and other ethical and governance requirements
• To build and maintain an extensive news network in the external market place
• To liaise with all editors in the News and CA division
• To cost effectively utilise the News and CA economics budget
• To effectively direct, performance manage and develop the News and CA economics team
• To ensure the effective coverage of issues relating to SME's and black economic empowerment
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Degree in Journalism or equivalent
• Diploma in Economics or equivalent
• 10 Years experience in news broadcasting industry, 6 of which in Economics reporting
UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of the South African economic situation and its historical complexities
• Understanding of the South African economic situation in relation to the regional, continental and international economics environment
• Ability to present economics information in layman’s terms
