Call for Applications: The Metropolitan Review Creative Writing Workshop (Nigeria)

Deadline: 28 September 2012

The Metropolitan Review.com, a review blog site in partnership with the Office of the Deputy Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly hereby calls on Ogoni youths to apply for entry into The Metropolitan Review Creative Writing Workshop slated to hold in October, 2012, in Ogoniland.

This workshop will avail the Ogoni youths, who are literary minded, the opportunity to learn the skills of fiction and non-fiction writing, as well as public speaking and due motivation.
This call became necessary after observation that Ogoniland is losing a creative stand in the Nigerian literary scenery. The platform created by the late Kenule Saro-Wiwa, a novelist and television sitcom producer as well as environmental right activist, Mr Paul Baridi and a lot of others, is gradually losing such strength. It is believed that a mind that can express itself in writing would not take to arms struggle or other form of violent agitation which endangers one’s life.

This workshop with hold for 3-days, starting 11th – 13th October, 2012.

The first stage is the call for essays from prospective participants. The essays would be screened and essayists invited to defend their writings. Successful writers would then make it into the writing workshop.

The call for submission of essay starts today, Monday, 22nd August, 2012 to close 12noon, 28th September, 2012.

The topic for the essay is “Effective Change in Ogoniland, the Youth as a Change-Maker.”
Essay should not be more than 600 words. It must be typed in double space format and sent as an attachment file in Microsoft Word document.

Details to accompany submission includes, names, age, school of studies, present location, phone number, email address, current home address and a brief biography of the entrants.

It is our desire that the Ogoni youth is exposed in all necessarily measure to practical learning skills which would not only enhance his life but that of his immediate community.

There is no monetary attachment or fee to this workshop.
