Job Vacancy: Writer for New Media Publishing (for Mercedes Benz project | Cape Town, South Africa)

Deadline: 17 August 2012

New Media Publishing is looking for a talented junior writer/picture researcher to work on an exciting new online platform for Mercedes-Benz, working side by side with and reporting directly to the editor. The ideal candidate should be a capable and inspired writer with the ability to seek out interesting and relevant leads to create engaging lifestyle content on a daily basis. The content is not restricted to motoring, and covers the spectrum of art, design, travel, music, fashion, and technology.

Applicants should therefore have a genuine interest in as many of these fields as possible, and strive to stay informed and at the forefront of new developments every single day. Additional duties include sourcing and editing images, uploading articles, attending occasional events, and contributing to the quarterly print magazine. Effectively, you will be the editor's right hand in the daily management of both the online and print portals, and will have a vital role in shaping the personality of this contemporary, cool, and aspirational platform.

ESSENTIAL:
  • A tertiary qualification in either journalism, creative writing, copywriting or media studies.
  • At least two years' experience in feature writing for a magazine (either online or in print) with samples of your work.
  • A head bursting with incredible ideas - both in terms of editorial content, and working within the new frontier of digital media.
  • A bookmarks bar filled with links to the edgiest and most current blogs around, and familiarity with some of the lesser explored nooks and crannies of the world wide web.
  • A confident and unique writing voice; a desire to break the bounds of conventional editorial content, yet capable of adhering to a broad house style that aligns with the brand's objectives.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Photoshop, InDesign
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • A desire to develop your personal writing style, and make an impact in the world of publishing.
  • The ability to work on tight daily deadlines.

NICE-TO-HAVE:
  • A solid foundation in photography and/or videography.
  • Proficiency in either Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.
  • An extensive social network that can keep you abreast of news in a range of creative fields (design, architecture, art, music, fashion).
  • A passion for cars.
