The 2012 ImpACT - Arts & Culture Trust Awards for Theatre/ Writing for Theatre (R1,500 prize | South Africa)

The 15th annual ACT Awards 2012 is presented in association with SAMRO (Southern African Music Rights Organisation), the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO), Media24 Books, the Vodacom Foundation and is supported by the Distell Foundation and Classicfeel Magazine.

Nominations are open to the public for the ImpACT Award for Theatre to honor artists practising the disciplines of Dance, Acting, Writing for Theatre, Musical Theatre and Physical Theatre.

Winners of the ImpACT Awards for Young Professionals are selected by an independent panel of judges. Awards will only be presented if a satisfactory number of quality nominations are received in the various categories and the adjudication panel reserves the right to carry over such awards to next year.

CRITERIA

For the purposes of this nomination process 'professional career' shall be defined as an artist who is being remunerated for his/her artistic work.
  • Artists are allowed to nominate themselves.
  • Only artists with South African citizenship, and who are practicing their craft in South Africa, are eligible for nomination.
  • Only artists who fall within the first 3 years of their professional careers (after undergraduate study) will be eligible for nomination. Artists who continue with their Masters immediately after completing their undergraduate studies will be eligible for nomination. However, artists that undertake Masters studies at a later stage will not be eligible.
  • Artists with no formal qualifications are also eligible for nomination, provided that they are under the age of 30 and that they are within the first 3 years of their professional careers.
  • Previous winners of the ImpACT Awards are not eligible for nomination for the same award or in another category.
ImpACT Awards winners will be profiled in an issue of ClassicFeel Magazine in 2013. The value of this placement exceeds R18,000.00 per feature.

ImpACT winners also receive a cash prize of R1,500. ImpACT Awards for Young Professionals (selected by an independent panel of judges) together with the recipients of the ACT Lifetime Achievement Awards (selected by the ACT Board of Trustees) will be announced at a Luncheon in Johannesburg in November 2012.
