The 2012 Amaka Arts Festival Opens October 8th (Luzaka, Zambia)

Amaka is the first Zambian international multi-disciplinary arts festival set to add value to the Zambian arts market. It is designed to provide an internationally recognized market to expose the rich Zambian culture through its arts.

The Amaka Festival embraces culture through art with the motive to develop the creative industries into sustainable industries that will contribute to the national development. It is also a platform for cultural heritage to revive patriotism and ownership of our culture.

Happening from 8th to 14th October 2012, the Festival will be held in Lusaka, Zambia and will showcase Zambian dance, film, visual arts, music, literary arts and fashion.

LITERARY ARTS BOOK FAIR
October 8 at 11:00am until October 12 at 4:00pm

The Amaka Literary Arts Festival will be working in conjunction with the Zambia Women Writers’ Association (ZAWWA) is a voluntary Association that caters for the interests of writers in Zambia, both male and female. Since its inception in 1994, the association’s objective is to preserve Zambian Culture through writing, encourage and facilitate the development of writing skills among members.

ZAWWA will display the various categories of literary genres that it has supported, and will also feature other independent self-published writers as well. The literary arts will also feature other independent organisations like “Zam PEN” and “Bitter Sweet Poetry Zambia.”

LITERARY PLAY: I ASPIRE

I Aspire takes a look at Gender Based Violence in Zambia. Three teenage school girls each have eye opening experiences with GBV, ones that take place all too often in real life. Despite the adversity, each finds a way to achieve their aspirations, "I Aspire." The play is thought provoking yet entertaining. You will find some of Zambia's finest award winning actors on the stage.
