Blog Editor Wanted at Black Girls Run (African American Women's Health Network)

Want to change the face of African-American women’s health? We need you! Black Girls RUN! is looking for a blog editor to further develop and produce high quality content aimed at educating women about health, fitness and running. The blog editor will need to understand the mission and the vision of Black Girls RUN! and must be able to consistently deliver in a fast paced and demanding environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Must be able to write multiple stories each week
• Write, assign and edit all original content
• Set editorial direction; Develop and adhere to monthly editorial calendar
• Manage freelance writers/contributors
• Bring strong visual sense and creativity to daily coverage
• Collaborate with designers to produce visually compelling content
• Participate in the daily copy workflow by suggesting stories and prepping news stories and video
• Implement SEO best practices on all article pages and content features
• Support the production of new additions of portal, blogs and site sections
• Edit stories as needed, improving clarity and style
• Assist in the development of consumer-friendly content as needed that remains audience-friendly

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelors degree in Journalism or similar field with experience using AP Style
• Able to commit 20-25 hours per week
• Experience in online journalism
• Very strong writing skills and previous experience with CMS (WordPress), SEO concepts, social media and promotion
• Superior editing and proofreading skills
• Solid understanding of HTML, Photoshop and blog-publishing platforms
• Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with flexible schedule
• Extensive knowledge of social media sites and ideas on how to engage our audience
• Endless energy and ideas for premium, reliable and trustworthy content, and a passionate drive to maximize its visibility and impact on readers
• Experiencing in directing a writing team
• Ability to plan and execute outstanding editorial content on deadline
• Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects while maintaining clarity of focus and flexibility in the face of organizational change and ambiguity
• Commitment to working in a team environment with shared goals; sound judgment and integrity; willingness to try new approaches; and a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and dedication to the mission and objectives of Black Girls RUN!
