Entries for the annual National Press Club - North-West University Journalist of the Year competition for 2012 are open. The competition encourages excellence in journalism and communication. The closing date for entries is 1 March 2013.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS"
- Entrants have to confirm that it is their own work and agree to it being used for publicity purposes
- Individuals may enter as many categories as they wish
- Entrants can enter work published/broadcast from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2012
- For categories 1-10 individuals should enter their own work
- For category 11 entrants can enter their own work or be nominated by someone
- For category 12 entrants must be nominated by a press club member
- Entrants must be club members to enter categories 1-10
- Prize money: R 5 000
- Enter a portfolio of not more than 5 news articles
- Write a motivation to support of your entry (on entry form)
- All your cuttings or copies thereof should be included
- Please also include your copy in PC format
- The entry should be signed by the editor
- Prize money: R 5 000

- In this category the individual has to be nominated by a press club member.
- An editor of any medium can be nominated

- Prize money is R 10 000
- From categories 1-10 an overall winner will be selected. Various factors will be taken into account, obviously including the scores and a discussion by judges. The overall winner will be the “National Press Club North-West University Journalist of the Year”, even if he/she is a photographer or cameraperson. This is tradition – in the same way as the National Press Club’s name (Press, but we also represent electronic media).

- Each entry/portfolio must have a separate entry form.
- An entry/portfolio will consist of a selection of work, subject to the maximum for each section, published or
- broadcast during the period 1 January to 31 December 2012.
- The entrant must verify that the entry is his/her own work.
- Entries can be submitted in English or any other official language. If not in English, please provide an English
- summary of about 200 words.
- Entries must reach the National Press Club by 1 March 2013.
