The Institute of Economic Affairs-Kenya is embarking on scenarios project on the informality and innovations in the city of Nairobi. The organizing question is: How will Nairobi look like in 2040? And what innovations are necessary to make Nairobi a prosperous city. This project is part of the Rockefeller Informal City Dialogues project that is taking place in six cities namely: Accra, Bangkok, Chennai, Lima, Manila and Nairobi. The project aims to foster a conversation about the informal urban realm, and how it can be cultivated and harnessed for the benefit of all.
As part of this project, the IEA-Kenya invites Kenyan (s) living in Nairobi aged 18-25 years to participate in an essay competition. Each essay should not exceed 1000 words exclusive of any notes and references and should seek to answer any one the following questions.
- What will Nairobi look like in 2040? Or,
- What innovations are needed to ensure that the informal and formal parts of the city of Nairobi are cultivated to provide opportunities for all its residents?
RULES:
- All entries must be converted into a PDF document and sent by email
- You may enter as many essays as you wish provided all entries are in English
- You may enter as a team with a maximum of two people contributing to the submission
- The IEA-Kenya will communicate the results of the competition by a notice on its website and will not engage in further communication regarding the decisions
- The critical factors for a good essay will be breadth of knowledge, imagination and clarity of thought
- This essay competition is open to students and any person meeting that age citieria and requires no specialized knowledge
- The IEA Kenya considers plagiarism to be a serious intellectual offense and will disqualify any essay that includes unauthorized use of another person’s ideas and material.
