Writer, Editor and Translator Wanted for a USAID-Funded Project in Northern Nigeria

A USAID-funded project in northern Nigeria aimed at strengthening state and local government capacity to deliver basic education services by addressing key issues in the management, sustainability and oversight of basic education as well as increasing access of orphans and vulnerable children to basic education and services such as health information and counseling is seeking the following short term consultants:

WRITER/EDITOR

Consultant Qualification and Skill Set
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in English, Liberal Arts or Social Sciences.
  • Master’s degree is an advantage
  • Minimum of 10 years experience working in newspaper publishing, book publishing or magazine publishing.
  • At least five samples of creative writing published in non-fiction sections of newspapers and magazines
  • Minimum of 5 years experience editing newspapers, magazines, books or technical publications.
  • Experience in editing books/publications published by international publishers.
  • Proofreading experience and previous editing work that is clearly error-free.
  • Attention to detail and outstanding command of writing for low-literate publics.
Objectives of Consultancy
  • Write short story pieces for publication in news publications
  • Edit and proofread project technical documents for public use.
  • Ensure that project technical documents meet the highest standards of quality and consistency in English writing.
COPY EDITOR

Consultant Qualification and Skill Set

HAUSA TRANSLATOR

Consultant Qualification and Skill Set
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Hausa, Liberal Arts or Social Sciences.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience working in the Hausa service section of newspaper, magazine, radio or TV, or the Hausa department of a higher institution.
  • At least five samples of documents translated from English to Hausa.
  • Experience in editing articles, books/publications in Hausa.
  • Proof reading experience in Hausa that is clearly error-free.
  • Attention to detail and outstanding command of writing Hausa for low-literate publics.
Objectives of Consultancy
  • Translate short story pieces into Hausa for publication in news publications
  • Translate and proofread project news bulletins into Hausa for public use.
  • Ensure that project news bulletins translated into Hausa meet the highest standards of quality and consistency in Hausa writing.
