Job Vacancy: Editor in Chief for The Source (Thomson Reuters | Zimbabwe)

The Source is a new independent business and financial news service in Zimbabwe that will provide accurate and informed news and analysis. A credible, independent agency facilitating the free-flow of financial information within Zimbabwe as well as to those considering future investment will play a crucial role in the country’s development. The news service will be operated by Zimbabweans, serving Zimbabwean media organisations, financial organisations, and their fellow citizens – and providing trusted information that will also be of value to potential foreign investors.

We are looking for a driven, results-oriented editor-in-chief to help set the editorial vision and long-range plan for this new service, coordinate coverage and contributions from across Zimbabwe, recruit and train a network of stingers. Candidates must have significant senior editorial management experience, as well as exceptional writing and editing skills. A strong background in financial news coverage is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure the voice, tone and mix of content fits with the overall Source strategy.
  • Coordinate coverage of sectors, including mining, agriculture, companies, investment and banking, amongst others. d contributions, collaborating with media and business partners
  • Manage operational budget for full-time and freelance team.
  • Collaborate with station editors and reporters on social media and SEO strategy to increase engagement across our markets.
  • Recruit and manage full-time editors and content creators with the management board
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 10 years experience as a senior news editor at a major news organization that creates local content under tight deadlines
  • Experience managing and recruiting editors, writers and other journalists
  • xperience with news standards and legal review of content
  • Must have outstanding communication skills
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in journalism
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be willing to work in Harare, Zimbabwe
  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in Zimbabwe
  • Must be able to work early morning, night and weekend hours when demanded by the group’s start-up environment, breaking news or other editorial responsibilities
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Working knowledge of agency work environment and requirements, digital media technology, particularly content-management tools.
  • Online news writing and editing background
