Job Vacancy: Managing Editor - Monthly Publications at Mikateko Media (South Africa)

Mikateko, Cape Town is looking for a managing editor to manage three education monthly publication produced on behalf of a client.

The ideal candidate will have good writing skills, exceptional people and organisational skills, and a keen eye for detail. Competency in InDesign is also a requirement. The candidate will also be able to work well as part of a team.

Candidates with the following experience or interests are invited to apply for this challenging and interesting position:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Liaise with the editor or project leader in the planning and production of each issue
  • Assist with the commissioning of contributors
  • Co-ordinate the production process with freelance teams
  • Prepare and source copy and pictures for layout
  • Copy taste, rewrite and proofread
  • Work closely with the designer in the preparation of publications for repro and print
  • Keep to strict deadlines and budgets
  • Organise and participate in planning meetings
  • Keep minutes of meetings
  • Liaise with clients
  • Any administrative tasks required by the publication, including monitoring budgets and collating invoices
