The Bank of Mauritius is launching the second edition of the Financial Literacy – Essay Competition open for students of Forms IV and V of the Republic of Mauritius. The aim of the competition is to create/enhance awareness among students on topical issues relating to financial literacy.
The theme for this edition is: The role of banks in the development of the country

The first edition of the Essay Competition, organised by the Bank in 2011, attracted 47 entries and the winning teams were from Loreto College, Port Louis, Loreto College, Curepipe and Loreto College, Quatre Bornes. The winning essays can be accessed on the Bank’s Website.

The theme for this edition is: The role of banks in the development of the country
CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
- Essays must be within a range of 1,800 – 2,000 words.
- Essays must be typed in A4 format using Times New Roman size 12 font and 1.5 line spacing. The page number should be centred at the bottom of the page. Charts and Tables, if any, must be included as appendices.
- All materials used as reference for the Essay must be listed as appendix.
- Participants should be grouped in teams of three and any individual participant cannot be member of more than one team.
- Only one entry per team will be accepted and not more than five entries from one institution. All entries should be certified by the respective institutions.
- Essays must be submitted in duplicate together with an entry form duly completed. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Bank’s website at https://www.bom.mu
- Essays together with the entry forms must be submitted in sealed envelopes marked “Financial Literacy - Essay Competition” by 16h00 at latest on Friday 28 September 2012, and addressed to: The Chairperson, Financial Literacy Committee, Bank of Mauritius, Sir William Newton Street, Port Louis. Participants from Rodrigues may submit their essays at the Bank of Mauritius Rodrigues Office.
- Essays will be assessed by a Panel from the Bank whose decision shall be final.
- The Bank reserves the right to publish essays on its website or in print, with due credit given to the authors.
- Participants who fail to comply with the conditions set out above will be disqualified.

- Second Prize -Rs9,000
- Third Prize -Rs 6,000
