Job Opening: Features Editor for Move! (Media24, South Africa)

Move! has a vacancy for a features editor. This is a management position and the person will report to the editor. The successful applicant must have a proven understanding of the Move's target market and competitors.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL:
  • Assist with the management of content and production of the magazine
  • Conceptualise, oversee and co-ordinate content and production.
  • Oversee the signing off of features in the absence of the editor.
  • Generate relevant, creative feature ideas in line with the Move! editorial mix
  • Mentor and manage writers including briefing and ensuring copy is accurate, of the highest quality and in keep with the Move! writing standard.
  • Assist in attending the events on behalf of the editor.
  • Ensure articles are compiled according to Move! style
  • Do final proofreading of features and other pages
  • Manage editorial deadlines
  • Manage features budget
  • Commission articles
  • Subedit copy

REQUIREMENTS
  • A clear understanding of the Move! reader, its competitors and issues that affect the market.
  • Ability to negotiate covers with celebrities
  • A tertiary qualification in languages or journalism and at least five years' relevant experience in an editorial environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to make sound and quick decisions
  • A passion for media and special interest and wide knowledge of current affairs
  • The ability to work under pressure and under extreme deadlines (sometimes weekends).
  • Well-developed planning and organisational skills
  • The ability to effectively manage people and processes
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • The ability to think laterally and creatively
  • Proven feature-writing and copy editing skills
  • A sound editorial knowledge
