Malawilive.com is a news online portal which is privately owned and focused on delivering positive news and events from Malawi to our community online, to those abroad and mainly those in Malawi.
For too long the image portrayed in the media has been too negative that we decided to create something showing the other side of the story.
We are based in Lilongwe and relatively new, we intend to have branches in Blantyre and Mzuzu soon, our website went live online in December 2012 with a “No Nonsense” approach.
NEWS WRITER:

QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS:
- Gather, edit, package and publish local news content – focusing on (but not limited to) News, Weather, tourism, business, NGOs events, diplomatic press releases and job offers – on the malawilive.com website
- Write text articles, publish video clips and edit image galleries according to the local editorial “environment”
- Gather and package relevant content around key stories from a range of external sources and feeds and content types
- Participate in efforts to hit aggressive daily benchmarks for the volume and frequency of local content publication
- Excellent news instincts with the ability to react decisively to breaking news; combined with the ability to write succinctly and with flair
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and stories simultaneously in a fast paced environment
- Ability to react to breaking news, updating the news as stories evolve and writing intros and leads to video online content
- Ability to work with directives from the website admin and ensuring a smooth running web site that is 100% accurate without typos or errors
- Flexible, with a willingness to undertake shift work associated with working for a 24/7 news operation.
- Experience working with social media, marketing products using social networking sites or creating content that lives on such sites
- Fluency in English to native standard and obviously in Chichewa
