BBC Media Action produces creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues. BBC Media Action also works to strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. BBC Media Action has an ongoing “Mother and Child Health" media project which will include a weekly radio drama and interactive discussion programme.
We seek applications from individuals who would like to participate in this project as writers of the radio drama. Experienced candidates may come from radio drama or theatre backgrounds and will have the ability and willingness to adapt to the writing demands of this project. Inexperienced candidates who display the ability and willingness to learn radio drama writing fitting the demands of this project are actively encouraged to apply.
ALL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
- An understanding of the core BBC values of impartiality, independence and accuracy.
- Strong understanding of the role of communications in development.
- Ability to work independently and organise time effectively within a range of often conflicting deadlines. Capacity to juggle competing priorities and a busy programme of work while working to an agreed strategy.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
- Good working knowledge of computer packages including Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and spoken Somali, English language skills an advantage.
- Good knowledge of all Somali dialects. Thematic specialisation in public health or maternal and child health is desirable.
